Thailand Health Care
part of global growth tourism!!
By Bill Fogarty
Did you know that more than 50, yest fifty, countries around the world count on some form
of health tourism to stimulate incoming traffic?
You may well ask why. Well contributing factors include the high cost of health care at home, long wait times for certain procedures,
better facilities and health care givers in certain countries are all among the reasons. |

Where do these
tourists seeking health care come from?
Europe, the USA, the Middle East, Japan, you get the
picture. They come from relatively wealthy countries
all around the world. And, even though the world is
experiencing, er, financial difficulties, this is
one industry that is programmed for increase. One of
the main reasons is convenience and speed. Try
joining a wait for desperately needed care in a
country where socialized medicine is offered. It's a
long line baby. |

Lets look at the standard of care. Does Thailand match up to
the rest of the world?
T here is a global standard in health care as well as
various standards of international
accreditation originating in various countries. Source
Wikipedia for that information please.
High marks are usually given Thai hospitals from embassies
of many countries. However the World Health Organization
places the country at a lowly 47. That's lower than many of
the countries medical tourists come from. Are there risks
involved? Yes but this is true for any country. First there
are many countries that have different diseases. Second
there may not be a great avenue (if any) to register
complaints. There are more of course; but you have your own
worries and cares. Better you research your own. |

Health tourism in
Thailand: An upward trend.
In Thailand medical tourism is one of the few bright spots
on the tourism scene.
Plus, hotels are lowering their rates and increasing their
services in the great rush for business
it As a result, The
Kingdom becomes even better value. Thailand offers
everything in health care. This can range from cardiac
procedures to hip replacement to sex change.
You want it or need it; you got it. Bangkok is the place to
go with most hospitals that cater
to foreigners very good. |

Medical Tourism in Thailand
Based on a report by the
Tourism Authority of Thailand.
Introduction
Health travel, once a luxury of only the rich, can
now be enjoyed by virtually all. In the days of
yesteryear, hardly anyone even pondered the
possibilities of going abroad to a distant foreign
land to have treatment. But now, with the
advent of the world becoming a global village,
millions are crossing international datelines in
hope of achieving a 'better new life'. |

Samiivej Hospital, near Bangkok's
Thong Lo
is also most popular |
|
Thailand has sprinted to the
forefront in the medical tourism industry. Unlike
most Western countries, the cost of private medical
treatment is cost effective. The standards in
Thailand are high with many of the health workers
graduates of he west. Thailand can offer the patient
world-renowned treatment plus the opportunity to
enjoy the holiday of a lifetime. |

Origin of the word "SPA"
The word SPA, most likely originates from a town
bearing the same name and originating in Europe.
Belgium to be exact. However in reality a SPA is a
place where you can heal mind, body and spirit.
There are a variety of techniques available in
Thailand; these include, but are not limited to,
massage, scrubs, yoga, reflexology, nutrition and
body raps. |

Thailand: Asia's Spa
Capital
Thailand prides itself in countless spas offering the
highest world-class services at extremely reasonable rates.
Much of the recent success of this therapy is due to the
tremendous support given by the Thai Spa Operators
Association. Not only have they assisted in the training of
therapists to international standards, but they have also
trained them in keeping methods traditionally and
distinctively in tune with Thailand. I is this kind of
service along with the "i Thai Smile" that are the key
factors for so many visitors to visit a SPA
in Thailand again and again. Furthermore, most clients walk
away from the SPA with their head held high and a feeling of
rejuvenation Thai SPAS are to be found not only quantity,
but also quality. SPAS are ubitiquos at all the major
tourist destinations in Thailand. These include, but again
are not limited to Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Ko Samui,
Chiang Mai and Hua Hin. |

Services and Hospitality
Thailand is a friendly country. In fact it is a must visit
destination for all those who enjoy nothing more than
rejuvenating with a special SPA experience.
Like the world famous Thai Massage treatment Thailand is
famed for its world-class natural healing techniques.
Thailand, home of Theravada Buddhism, is the ideal location
to do a bit of spiritual soul-searching and reap the
benefits of Vipassana meditation.
This technique has exploded in popularity in Western
countries. Then, there is the sumptuous cuisine to wine and
dine on, with cooking classes available too. Should you want
to experience a real Thai way of life there are numerous
home-stays, including those in the unique hill tribe
villages of the north. |
